The One Flag

A First Things First Project

Design is at war with itself. We are taught that design is about finding solutions. But the success of these solutions is judged so narrowly – Did it ooze desire? Did it shift units? – that we find ourselves implicated in problems far greater than the ones we solve.

What Type?

I just realized that I have been on a posting spree on this part of cyber space :S. pssst.... i'm in close proximity to the Sooper Tam... that ought to explain the enthusiasm :D

What Type is a blog/forrum started by a bunch of graphic designers who were "tired of the inactivity and indifference that is growing everywhere and geared up to use design and comedy to wake up the inane world". To put it mildly, they encourage designers to send in entries that asks a relevent question that starts with the words "what type", containing the answer within itself... some of the entries are nice.

So send in entries, take a peek, leave comments... have fun

Cheers!

Anti Death Penalty Logo Competition

Have you got a flair for designing logos?

Do you wish to use your skills for a good cause?

If you respect life and while not condoning the crime, consider death penalty as degrading and not fit for a civilized nation, you are the one we are looking for! Amnesty International India is launching a national campaign against death penalty shortly and for that we are looking for a simple, elegant logo.

You have an idea? Send it to us. We want youths, students and common people to design this and make the campaign more participatory. If selected, your logo could find prominence on our campaign materials like posters, t-shirts, banners, brochures, badges etc. nationally and probably, internationally.

The logo should be innovative, distinctive, visually appealing yet conveying the message of Anti-Death Penalty clearly. Those interested can either send their designs in pdf/jpeg formats on CD’s or by email. Hand painted logos can also be send by post to the address given below.

It’s not about the prize money, but the cause. The best design will get a certificate of appreciation as well as a token cash prize of Rs 3000. The second best will get a certificate and Rs 2000. Other best five entries would get certificates. The entries would be judged by a jury appointed by Amnesty International India. The last date for submission is 15th August 2007.

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement, defending human rights. We have 2.2 million members and supporters in more than 150 countries and territories, coming from diverse backgrounds. Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception regardless of the nature of the crime, the characteristics of the offender, or the method used by the state to kill the prisoner.
