Sherlock Holmes

I watched Sherlock Holmes yesterday. Although I missed the opening credits of the movie, I was glued to my seat for the closing credits of the film. Beautiful mix of illustration, calligraphy and ink blots.

Fully <3 ed it.

The behind the scenes of the Sherlock Holmes credit sequence.

James Jean

Found this through notcot. I fell in love with it.

http://www.jamesjean.com/sketchbook/2008_mole.htm

I've never been too good at using pencils, especially after DD2. I love how his illustrations look finished, but on second glance you realise that there are mistakes, and additions as his subjects move, which just makes the whole thing a lot nicer.

I can't wait to use my moleskine now.

Drawing South: An artist's voyage to the Antarctic

In early 2008, visual artist Nicholas Hutcheson spent 7 weeks on the ship Aurora Australis, journeying to the Antarctic. He visited the Australian Stations of Casey, Davis & Mawson as part of the Australian Antarctic Division’s Arts Fellowship for 2007/8.

This site
contains the drawings from the voyage.

Letman

Amazing type work.
Especially the hand done ones.

Here's an extract from Letman's site:

He is cuckoo about letters, he loves them, so far is certain. He is also one of those fellows who can read a chunky novel in a couple of hours, but that's a different story.
His designs are transparent, leaving room to breathe. Them letters got things to say, they are so clear it tickles your eye and make you blink. What is this colourful craft ?
Letman's letters are curious. His handmade style fits the boundries of typography like a universe on itself by lashing out to illustration, grafitti and graphic design.
Letters are free entities to him. They are clear and cunning.
Together they stand strong.

Look at book

http://www.lookatbook.com/

For 36 weeks, a sketchbook was sent in random order between four artists: two in Brooklyn, two in Belfast.

Every Wednesday, one participant would receive the book. The following Monday it was sent out, giving each artist 5 days to complete a spread in response to the one that preceded it.

By the time the book was completed, it had travelled over 60,000 miles.

MUST SEE.
